Planning a family trip to southern Germany? The Wank Mountain playground in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a local parent’s favorite. It offers breathtaking views of the mountains and some great amenities.

Mountain Top Fun Without the Hike

Located on the summit of Wank Mountain in the Bavarian Alps, this wooden playground offers families more than just incredible views. It is easily accessible by a ride on the Wankbahn cable car, which is a whole experience onto itself.

Parents love that you can make a day out of it and take the hike down back to Garmisch, but the show stopper is definitely the views at the top.

The playground area sits at over 1,700 meters, it also tends to be quieter and cooler than the valley during summer. It’s a peaceful, low-crowd alternative to busier tourist sites nearby.

There’s a short walking loop (about 20–30 minutes) with child-friendly terrain. On clear days, you can even spot Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany.
