The summer is upon us and many people haven’t taken a vacation in over a year, due to the pandemic. With places opening up, the administration of vaccines, and restored confidence among many Americans, this summer is your chance to get away!
With a negative COVID test required for re-entry into the United States, many countries on lockdown or under tight restrictions, your best bet is staying stateside, or even local. Keep in mind, the pandemic is still happening, and traveling responsibly is of utmost importance.

If you are looking for the perfect weather, a great food scene, and water front experience, head over Burlington, Vermont.
This college town host many amazing kid-friendly restaurants, breweries and kid museums in town. But during the summer, the whole city becomes a summer wonderland thanks to the lake Champlain and its family friendly water sport activity set up!
Where to stay: Hotel Vermont! This is the kind of hotel that will remind you what is like to be “in”. The hotel is right downtown, offers a chic mid-century vibe and many eco-conscious amenities. But where it shines for families is the hidden trundle bed and beautiful jointed rooms available, as well as an array of amenities like board games, food onsite and welcoming staff.
Michigan has great beaches and great weather in the summer. Traverse City is a great little beach town full of kid-friendly fun. The Great Lakes Children’s Museum is perfect for kids who love ships, lakes, and lighthouses. Next, you can visit Pirate’s Cove Adventure Park, which features a mini-golf course with waterfalls, caves, and even shipwrecks! They recently added a zip line and ropes course. After two busy days, you can relax at Clinch Park in downtown Traverse, for boats, beaches, and a splash pad, perfect for the little ones!

While often thought of as an adults Disneyworld, Las Vegas actually has tons to offer families. With the walkability of the city, the variety of food (so you can even find food for those picky eaters!), the lights, activities, shows, and the pool scene, you really can’t go wrong. The Las Vegas McCarran International Airport usually has cheap flights, vacancies, and budget-friendly rates.
Where to stay: Elara by Hilton Grand Vacations, right on the center Strip, is great for families. They have rooms with kitchens for a reasonable price. For more budget-friendly options, head south and stay at Excalibur or Luxor. If you head north on the Strip, you can stay at Circus Circus, which boasts the Adventuredome, an indoor amusement park. Going all out? Stay at the Bellagio or the Venetian for the ultimate Las Vegas experience.
With Hawaii, you get the international travel vibe without actually having to leave the United States. Hawaii has beautiful waterfalls, top-notch snorkeling, family-friendly hikes, and amazing food. In Maui, check out The Maui Ocean Center (The Aquarium of Hawaii), about 30 minutes from Kaanapali. Maui also offers amazing snorkel tours, the Atlantis Submarine, and even a Maui Treasure Hunt! You can also find Whaler’s Village in Kaanapali, which offers tons of shopping and a variety of great restaurants, such as Hula Grill and Leilani’s. Remember to make reservations for dinner! Don’t forget to stop by The Hyatt in Kaanapali for shaved ice and a smoothie!

Kauai is known as the Garden Island and has a Garden of Eden feeling throughout. The beaches in Kauai are second to none and offer so many family-friendly activities. You can take a boat tour of the Na Pali Coast with Captain Andy’s Boat Tours, hop on a 40-minute train ride through the historic Kilohana Plantation, and visit the Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens. Make sure to stop at Hanalei Bay for an amazing beach experience! Also, be sure to check out Chicken in a Barrel BBQ and order their smoked chicken (so delicious!).
Where to stay: Marriott Kauai Beach Club is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and culture-rich hotel experience. If you are looking for something more budget-friendly, check out Banyan Harbor Resort.
A popular destination for people trying to escape the summer heat, Colorado is an adventure-seeker’s heaven. Colorado summers are known for their cool temperatures, beautiful scenery, fresh air, and outdoor activities. There are so many great towns in Colorado to visit and you really can’t go wrong with any of them! Famous for their winter pursuits, Aspen, Breckenridge, and Telluride also offer great summer activities for the whole family. For somewhere less well-known, but just as wonderful, check out Ouray, Crested Butte, or Glenwood Springs. These towns all offer a charming town atmosphere, scenic views, great kid-friendly hiking, and more. In Glenwood Springs, you’ll find Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, which has ALL rides open for summer 2021! You’ll find roller coasters, zip lines, fossil digs, gemstone panning, and so much more! After a long day of hiking at the adventure park, you can relax at the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool.
Where to stay: Glenwood Hot Springs Resort is the best way to have all the greatest amenities of Glenwood Springs right at your doorstep. You have access to the Hot Springs Pool, water slides, splash pad, and interactive water features.
Ready to brave an international adventure post-pandemic? Cancún has the beaches, the food, and the fun you are looking for! Take the Captain Hook Pirate Dinner Cruise for a fun-filled evening out on the water, complete with dinner and pirate-themed activities. The last time we were in Cancun, the ship set off fireworks every night as well! Keep in mind, this cruise will keep you out late, so be prepared for that with the little ones! If you want more water fun than you can find at your resort, head to the All Ritmo Water Park for the day! Cancún also has an interactive aquarium, zoo, and day trips to Isla Mujeres for a quick getaway and clear-water snorkeling.

Add Flagstaff to your travel plans for great outdoor adventures! It’s a cool little mountain town with tons of kid-friendly activities and it’s perfect as a home base for exploring northern Arizona. Located only 1 1/2 hours from the Grand Canyon and 2 hours from the Petrified Forest National Park, you’ve got your day trips figured out. You’re also a hop, skip, and a jump away from Sedona for a great day of hiking with, gorgeous sunsets to end your day. While you’re in Flagstaff, be sure to spend an evening at the Lowell Observatory to get a glimpse into space! Lowell Observatory is where Pluto was discovered in 1930.
Where to stay: Arizona Mountain Inn and Cabins have breathtaking views, cozy accommodations, and tons of outdoor space for the kids.
